Cheezy 2D sites for kids (2D vs 3D exploration)

I am so tired that all of the 3D games and virtual worlds are only made for older players. My kids have to settle for flat 2D graphics in these pseudo-virtual worlds. How do you explore a world that is flat with minimal points of interest? Sites like Club Penguin and Webkins only contain games that are merely cheap rip-offs of ones which were made 15 years ago. This is great if you are into the “retro” thing but my kids want to explore worlds like the ones on modern-day consoles. Is there anything more forward thinking than Club Penguin? (which is evil in itself – but that is for a later discussion)
